A Little History of PEACE Vallarta
Click to see a Google map where we work.

PEACE's start dates back to 2003 when Ayuda los Animales (Help the Animals) ran its first spay/neuter program in the Bahia de Banderas with one veterinarian and six volunteers.

In 2004, Molly Fisher, then a socially conscious teacher at the American School in Puerto Vallarta, envisioned a community organization in the Punta de Mita area. The following years were spent laying the groundwork for PEACE.

The Community House (Casa Comunidad) program launched in 2005 to focus on education, followed by the United Hands for Women (Manos Unidas por la Mujer) artisan co-op in 2006. In 2007, Community Pride (Orgullo en la Comunidad) was started to improve environmental awareness and implement community beautification projects. The PEACE programs began to spread to surrounding communities. By the end of 2008, PEACE was working in 6 towns. The mobile spay and neuter team visited over 30 towns. The Casa Campesinawas lent to PEACE for 3 years by the ejido in Punta de Mita and all programs moved into the space.

2010 was marked by the launch of two social enterprises, SéMásMicrofinanzas (Be MoreMicrofinance) and the PEACE Boutique. Other new activities included the launch of Celebrate the Beat, a music and dance class for youth that is part of PEACE's educational program and Work for Food (TrabajoporDispensa), a community beautification project that is part of PEACE's environmental program and was initiated as a response to local flood relief efforts.

In the future, PEACE will focus on the institutionalization of these existing flagship programs in order to increase reach and impact. Education will continue to be the focal point of all programs offered. It is our belief that this portfolio of activities will support the development of productive and vibrant communities by providing participants with the tools they need to achieve their greatest potential.

Volunteering with Peace Punta de Mita

Hundreds of volunteers do incredibly meaningful and necessary work for Peace. From graphic designers to photographers, from weekend cleanup coordinators to translators and editors - our volunteers perform essential tasks that enable Peace Punta de Mita to move forward.

Peace volunteers work in communities and schools throughout the Banderas Bay. They commit to different amounts of time, from two hours, to a year. Some volunteers live in the area year-round, while others are visiting for a short period of time.

It is important to Peace that the volunteer experience is a positive one for all individuals involved. Volunteers go through an application process in order to be placed according to their skills and interests. The dedication and passion of volunteers act as a catalyst for positive change. Every volunteer is an ambassador of the Peace philosophy.

Peace Internship Programs

Peace offers students the opportunity to excel in a global work environment through Peace internship program! Peace interns learn experientially alongside staff members, gaining tremendously valuable work experience and help to better communities throughout the Bay of Banderas, Mexico.

Interns work with public-school teachers in Mexico and with Peace staff to lead elementary- and middle-school students during Peace's annual summer camp. Elementary-level themes include ecology, art, sports, and theater, while the middle-school student's curriculum develops entrepreneurial skills. By the end of camp, each middle-school class will have designed an entrepreneurial venture, and the elementary-school kids present their individual projects to their class.

Peace interns also enjoy organized excursions, the opportunity to improve foreign language skills, and earn valuable classroom and work experience.

Please submit your resume and complete application to CeCi Peredes at ceci@peacemexico.org.
