Biblioteca Los Mangos is a true cultural and community center. It is a place where children and adults alike are able to go to read, study, use computers, take dancing lessons, play chess, learn English, watch movies, paint, among a multitude of other activities.
Los Mangos Library is a non-governmental institution administered and supported by the Board of Trustees Pro library of Vallarta AC through public and private donations.
The initiative to build our Puerto Vallarta Library, according to the needs of the city, was led by a group of citizens to be established as a civil association in 1992 under the name of Pro Library of Vallarta AC. The founders of this Association were Mrs. Bernice Starr and Prof. Carlos Munguía Fregoso.
The total construction of our library had a cost of approximately 6 million pesos, which was collected by voluntary contributions by donors, sponsors and benefactors, as well as state and municipal contributions. It was inaugurated on November 28, 1996, with almost 6,000 books.
Very soon, an agreement was signed with the National Network of Libraries that gave "Los Mangos" furniture and books. This endowment of books has remained constant each year in addition to donations from individuals.
The maintenance of our library has been the responsibility of Pro Library of Vallarta, and has remained in continuous operation since inception.
As the public library, it houses academic information from pre-school up and recreation for all attendees.
