Pet-owners in Mexico City have attended an annual blessing ceremony for their animals, to protect them from danger and misfortune. Report by Melissa Nathoo (ITN News)
Pet-owners in Mexico City have been attending an annual blessing ceremony to mark the feast day of Saint Anthony, known as the protector of animals.
With a sprinkling of holy water, creatures great and small are given what is believed to be protection from danger and misfortune.
One canary owner and worshipper, Gloria Medina Gonzalez, said: "I think the reason for bringing the animals to the priest is so they are healthy. So that they produce many canaries."
It is a tradition dating back to colonial times.
