Circus Animal Cruelty: Abused for Entertainment (AnimalMedia)
Colima becomes the third state to ban animals performing in circuses after the states of Morelos and Querétaro, in addition to the municipality of Naucalpan in the State of México and the municipality of Culiacán in the State of Sinaloa.
Colima legislators approved an amendment to the State Law for the Protection of Animals, which states that wildlife may only be exhibited publicly in cages.
Mariano Trillo Quiroz, a member of the Green Party, who sponsored the reform, said in most cases animals used in circuses are abused when they are trained for the shows with blows or lashes in order to force them to do the routines or tricks on stage.
Mariano Trillo said that under the new law animals may remain in circuses, but only for display in their cages.
