The "Left Behind" Cast Talks About Making the Movie (leftbehindreboot)

A religious revival is underway in the unlikeliest of places: Hollywood. While the studios may not be placing their faith in Jesus, there are signs that 2014 will be a year for faith-based blockbusters of biblical proportion.

This year, studios will release more movies based on Judeo-Christian beliefs than they have in the last decade. Given the entertainment industry’s backlash against celebrities who publicize their religious beliefs, such as Phil Robertson from the reality TV serial Duck Dynasty, it raises the question, “Why the sudden interest from Hollywood?’

As there are “no atheists in a foxhole,” there are no studios willing to pass the opportunity to cash-in on biblical themed films. The audiences may be looking for redemption, but potential profits are reason enough for the movie industry to rejoice. Though some suggest Hollywood has an anti-Christian agenda, Director Scott Derrickson disagrees, stating “It's pro-money, and little else.”

Paul Lalonde, CEO of Stoney Lake Entertainment, sees the rise in popularity of this genre as balanced, yet nuanced. He said, “Audiences that watch faith based movies aren’t necessarily looking to have their beliefs confirmed. Like everyone else, they want to be entertained.”

... Lalonde, whose own movie, Left Behind, is one of the most anticipated faith-based movies of 2014, says “Once we were able to get the script in front of the actors we wanted, casting was not difficult. Great actors want to play great characters and the Bible has some of the best.”

Indeed, Left Behind, features Nicolas Cage, the title role in Noah is being played by Russell Crowe, Christian Bale will play the part of Moses in Exodus, and the Mary Mother of Christ cast includes Julia Ormond and Ben Kingsley.
