The milestone event celebrates the ongoing growth of women’s sport, inclusivity, and accessibility, and will forge a legacy for female wheelchair basketball athletes around the world.
Wheelchair Basketball Canada is pleased to be hosting the top female wheelchair basketball players on the planet through June 28 in Toronto for the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation’s Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championship. World-class female athletes will converge on the Mattamy Athletic Centre (same venue as Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games) to showcase the elite skills and athleticism that make wheelchair basketball the most popular sport for athletes with a disability in the world.
The tournament will be the largest women’s world championship in history featuring 12 participating countries representing three international zones. Due to the ongoing growth and prosperity of wheelchair basketball worldwide, the women’s competition will be held separately from the men’s for the first time in 20 years. It is a milestone event that celebrates the ongoing growth of women’s sport, inclusivity, and accessibility, and will forge a legacy for female wheelchair basketball athletes in Canada and around the world.
