CELAYA, Guanajuato - The passing of the energy reform’s secondary laws "is damaging" the present and future of Mexicans, complained the moral leader of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, who also announced that they have collected 3 million signatures to throw out the "privatizing oil reform".

"[The reform] is the government’s way of handing over the country and its resources to foreign interests. It is the commitment of the current government to succeed in having our resources serve other interests, that our markets are stocked with foreign products," he stated during a tour in Guanajuato.

The handing over of the oil to foreign interests damages the future of Mexicans, that’s why it’s so important to carry out a public referendum during the next year’s election that reverses the constitutional reform promoted by Enrique Peña Nieto, he said.

"We already have the signatures and the necessary support; more than 3 million citizens are demanding that the referendum be carried out," he specified.

The former presidential candidate was confident that the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Supreme Court of Justice of Nation (SCJN) will validate the public referendum, based on the fact that 70 percent of Mexicans reject the "privatizing oil reform," Cárdenas Solórzano maintained.
