Mexican National Anthem - "Himno Nacional Mexicano" (jamesblitz90)

The government of Mexico issued an emergency call to its consulates and embassies all over the world, as well as to schools and national communications media, to ask that the melody, which up until now was known as the National Anthem, not be played in official acts, in light of the risk of causing an international crime.

The copyright to the National Anthem was sold by the heirs of Jaime Nunó to the American company Wagner & Lieven at the beginning of the 20th Century. Since that time, there has been a contract between Wagner & Lieven and the Mexican federal government, renewable each ten years, which allowed for the playing of the music and lyrics in Mexican territory and abroad, in return for royalty payments.

"We contacted Los Pinos because the deadline to renew our contract expired at the end of last year, and we did not receive any notice that they intended to renew it," said Richard Wagner, company president.

Wagner & Lieven announced that the music of the hymn has been sold to a Japanese brand of wide-brimmed hats, which paid a large sum for the exclusive use of the music, with the intention of utilizing it in a new commercial campaign.

For its part, the Secretary of the Interior blamed a secretary name Lupita, who has been fired for the administrative error which has stripped the country of its original national anthem.

"It was an unfortunate mistake, but we see it as an opportunity to renew ourselves. Our old national anthem was very violent and warlike, we have launched a call for anyone who wants to participate in the creation of a new national anthem which is in the current spirit of Mexico; a  vibrant, modern hymn with a message of peace and harmony," said Osorio Chong in his urgent message.
