A total of 19 low-income families in the town of Tzintzuntzan in Michoacan state received Saturday their renovated homes as part of a joint project of the governments of Spain and Mexico.
"It's a miracle - my house was in the worst condition and they left it like new. It makes you happy to be alive," Felipe Cornelio, head of one of the families that benefited from the project that is part of a program for restoring traditional homes along the 16th century Don Vasco route, told Efe.
The renovated homes were delivered Saturday are part of a group of 62 that will by handed back to their dwellers this year in Tzintzuntzan, center of the Purepecha civilization, and in the villages of Ihuatzio and Tzurumutaro.
Attorney Jeronimo Andreu, a member of the regional Andalusian council, was the contact with whom the work of restoration began in 2007 with the renovation of 143 houses in Santa Fe de la Laguna, Tzintzuntzan and Erongaricuaro.
After the program was completed, further funding was forthcoming from various sources, making it possible to begin a second phase that on Saturday produced its first good work with the 19 houses.
