The Mexican government has demanded a full investigation into a Grapevine police officer’s fatal shooting of an unarmed Mexican citizen.

Mexico’s top diplomat in Dallas, José Octavio Tripp Villanueva, said his government sent letters to North Texas officials urging an inquiry because Rubén García Villalpando’s death last week “possibly involved unnecessary use of police force.”

Mexico took the unusual step of requesting an investigation because “we don’t want to see a trend,” Tripp Villanueva said Wednesday.
