More than five million weapons are currently circulating in Mexico illegally, and 65 percent of them are in the hands of organized crime organizations, revealed a Senate's report on Sunday.
Civil sectors have the other 35 percent of the weapons for their alleged personal protection, according to the Senate, which carries out an initiative to toughen sanctions for carrying offensive weapons.
The senators propose changes in Article 19 of the Constitution for pursuing that act and considering a serious crime to carry banned weapons.
The Senate's report says that about 127 million dollars circulate in the arms black market, and Mexico holds the world's fifth place in that market.
