Mexico said it is on the offensive against the New Generation Cartel of Jalisco. Authorities accuse the group of shooting down a Mexican military helicopter. CCTV's Franc Contreras reported it's how the cartel did it that has raised alarm bells. (CCTV)
Starting today, the National Security Commission (CNS) will start rotating the members of the Federal Police in Jalisco as part of the government's offensive against organized crime in the state, while the state government will make changes in its police force.
Aristóteles Sandoval Díaz, governor of Jalisco, said that the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG for its Spanish acronym), infiltrated municipal police in at least two municipalities and added that the government will take control of security in four municipalities more in the near future.
In an interview with El Universal, Sandoval said that a year and a half ago he warned the Federal Police and the then Attorney General Jesús Murillo Karam about the logistics and weapons of the cartel and its expansion in recent years.
