One is a glamorous former soap star turned First Lady while the other is a beautiful ex-TV journalist turned Queen of Spain.

On the surface, it was a meeting of two strikingly similar women when Mexican First Lady Angélica Rivera came face-to-face with Queen Letizia of Spain in Mexico City Monday night.

Both come from relatively humble backgrounds and went on to marry powerful men, and both combine stunning looks with a seriously sophisticated sense of style.

But that is where the similarities end for while Letizia, 42, has become increasingly popular since becoming Queen of Spain in June last year, Ms Rivera's reign has been marked by scandal.

Not that you would know it based on photos from the state dinner that the pair, dressed up to the nines, attended.
