Motherboard features editor Brian Anderson recently appeared on The Leonard Lopate Show to talk about BORDER LINES, our nine-part investigative feature about the use of burner phones at the US-Mexico border by migrants and the cartels and smugglers that run the illegal border-crossing industry.
The half-hour interview explores some of the prevailing misconceptions about the border wall and the state of migration today, and provides backstory on how we gained interview access with Comanche, a Sinaloa cartel plaza boss, as well as multiple migrants who crossed the border illegally. One of those crossers, an undocumented migrant who currently lives and works in New York City, is one of a growing numbers of migrants who try to cross illegally with instructions relayed over the phone by smugglers.
After listening, be sure to check out the anchor story, Remote Control, and explore the rest of BORDER LINES right here.
