New App Aims to Reduce Credit Card Fraud at Gas Stations in Mexico El Jefazo - The Fulano Forum

For the first time in nearly 80 years, Mexico's gasoline market is starting to open up to competition. As CCTV America's Franc Contreras reports from Mexico City, the change is not as massive as many expected. (CCTV America)

Between 2.5% and 3% of fuel purchases each year in all the gas stations in Mexico with credit cards are the object of fraud, a situation which a new application seeks to reduce.

Hidrosina and Mastercard presented the Palzez application, which will allow the payment for gasoline in a station from this chain by cardholders.

Fernando Alanis, commercial director of Grupo Hidrosina, explained that the major part of frauds are from cloning and double charges.

He said that credit card fraud in this business does not exceed 0.2%, that is, less than 1 million pesos (US$55,000) per year.

The application will be available in the Android and Apple stores, and a cardholder must enter the information from his plastic credit card to use it.

With the app, one can locate the nearby Hidrosina gas stations, enter the station you will go to, enter the amount to pay, and even select another product.

Upon arrival at the gas station, the user only will have to provide the first four numbers of the reference of his payment receipt which the app generates, or his name and last name.

The data will be consulted by the gas station attendant in the system, which will be next to the pumps and the operation will be finalized.
