During a ceremony commemorating Mexico's National Flag Day, the country's emblematic flag, showing an eagle grasping a snake on top of a cactus was raised up high at the military Field of Mars in Mexico City. However, as it was raised by soldiers, the flag caught and tore on a metallic structure that was among the equipment needed for the ceremony.
However, the Mexican president used this in his address at the event as an allegory to call on all Mexicans to unite.
At the same time, he said that in the times to come, Mexicans living abroad must be more united and that their government is watching over them and protecting them.
