That Donald Trump may not actually be building a 2,000 mile-long concrete wall estimated to cost at least $10 billion by the president’s own conservative estimates might not come as a surprise to the many American and global observers who’ve long scoffed at the idea.

Whatever the political or funding hiccups, people stand ready to offer their services. Veteran Israeli border security company Magal Security Systems says they’re charging ahead with plans to meet a growing demand for border wall technology.

“This is a huge and exciting opportunity,” said Doron Kerbel, vice president of Magal. His company is looking to advance the U.S.-Mexico security system beyond cameras and drones and into the next frontier: robots.

“Our experience is that whatever you use, you need detection, deterrence is not enough,” said Kerbel at Magal headquarters in Yehud, an industrial city in central Israel, while the company’s mobile “smart sensor” patroller, known as “roboguard,” whirred on the rooftop testing site. “Even if you build a huge, 30 feet high wall, people will bring a 31-foot ladder.”

Magal is one of the hundreds of companies that answered the pre-solicitation request for proposals for the “border wall” and for the “other border wall,” posted on the Department of Homeland Security website last month.

Magal designed the high-tech perimeter detection system surrounding the Gaza Strip and has installed its technology in 80 percent of the country’s controversial system of wall and fences, which stretch across its volatile borders with Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, the West Bank and east Jerusalem. Palestinians call the West Bank structure a “separation wall” or “apartheid wall,” because of the restrictions they place on daily movement.
