The Mayan exhibition, Language of Beauty, composed of 350 pieces, indigenous testimonies and civilian and religious chronicles of the 16th century, was opened today at the National Museum of Anthropology in the Mexican capital.
Architectural elements and sumptuary useful objects are exhibited in the different rooms. These are made from a wide diversity of materials and techniques collected in 45 archeological places of Campeche, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatán.
According to specialists, it is a time journey separated by five centuries from the landing of the first Spanish expedition in Mayan territory. This exhibition was shown recently in China, Germany and Italy.
José Enrique Ortiz who is in charge of National Coordination of Museums and Exhibitions at National Institute of Anthropology and History said that academicians' study of the Mayan culture has been very helpful to comprehend aesthetic and ideological values printed in the art of that civilization.
