Mexico City marked the Day of the Dead holiday by remembering the 369 people killed in 19th September earthquake (Euronews)

Almost 16,000 schools will have to be rehabilitated or rebuilt in Mexico after the September earthquakes, it was announced this week.

The head of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) Aurelio Nuño, told the Senate that such actions will cost 20 billion pesos (about $1.1 million USD).

During his appearance before the Education Commission of the Senate, the official stated they have the funds for the partial reconstruction of 5,000 schools, the complete rebuilding of another 275 that will be demolished and another 11,000 schools to be rehabilitated from minor damages.

He further added that all the States submitted the assessment on the constructive conditions of their educational centers.

In the case of Mexico City, the 10,000 facilities were reviewed and 80 percent of the students have already returned to classes.
