Secretary of Tourism Gloria Guevara Manzo

MEXICO CITY – Secretary of Tourism Gloria Guevara Manzo will visit Brazil to participate in the Portal of the Tourism Professionals (PANROTAS) tourism convention and strengthen tourism promotion in South America.

In a press release on Sunday, the Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur) stated that on March 13 and 14, Mexican and Brazilian officials and business leaders will meet with the goal of encouraging more Brazilian tourists to come to Mexico.

Guevara Manzo will take part in the “Training, strategies, and opportunities for important tourism destinations” panel with the tourism secretaries of Argentina, Chile, and Brazil; Enrique Meyer, Pablo Longueria, and Gastão Vieira, respectively.

The panel will discuss the importance of promoting tourism in the region, and the need to increase the number of South American visitors to Mexico.

According to the Sectur, 196,000 Brazilian tourists came to Mexico in 2011, 66.8 percent more than in 2010. Growth in Argentinian tourists was 17.7 percent in 2011; Colombia, 23.2; Venezuela, 4.6; Chile, 12.9; Peru, 36.9.

The Sectur stated that because Brazil is an important market for tourism development in Mexico, Guevara Manzo will meet with Brazilian tourism industry leaders during her working tour, including Plinio Nascimento, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nascimento Turismo, one of Brazil’s largest wholesale travel agencies. Guevara Manzo will also meet with Paulo Luppa, President of Operadora Trend, one of the five largest tourism companies in the country.
