The live debate is over. Richard Branson, Russell Brand, Julian Assange, Eliott Spitzer, Vincente Fox, and many more, locked horns on the age-defining question. It was an extraordinary event. Please don't forget to vote on the topic for the next debate that we will hold in May.

We should end the war on drugs. To think poverty can ever be made history is naive. Marriage should be between man and woman.

You may agree or disagree with any of the above, but if you could hold a debate on the issues that matter to every one of us across the globe, who would you want attend? Presidents? Hollywood stars? Top ranking entrepreneurs? Renowned orators? No doubt.

But what about you? Wouldn’t you and your friends also want to be there? Since the world is now so interconnected, since the global village is now your neighbourhood and mine, surely we should all have a voice.... all have a say in what our village looks like.

The question is: How?

The Versus debates organised by Intelligence Squared is how. IQ2 has already made its name as the forum that has revitalised the art of live debate in several countries. Now we’re going global … and online. Every person in every country can participate.

By making use of the democratic potential provided by Google+ Hangouts we can bring in voices from every corner of the world to the live debate held in London. Yes, there will be presidents, “experts” and a bit of Hollywood glamour, but the importance of the Plus debates lies in the fact that ordinary citizens from around the world can join in too.

You can vote: you may even get the chance to speak. And it really matters that you do. Democracy is too important to be left to the politicians and the experts.
