MEXICO CITY – Mexican students are returning to school today in the millions as holiday vacations officially came to a close, according to the School Calendar 2012-2013 cycle established by the Ministry of Education.
National Education System students numbering 35.5 million return today to classrooms to start the second half of the 2012-13 school year after more than two weeks of winter vacation; 25.7 million preschool, primary and middle schoolers, along with 9.8 million high school and college students, will join 1.8 million teachers, administrators and staff in schools across the country.
The SEP reminded students and families that Feb. 1 to 15 is the school registration period for pre-, elementary and middle school students for the 2013-14 school year and wished Mexican students success in the second half of their academic year.
The SEP will begin the post-holiday school session with 13 new high-level officials after the official transfer of power from the administration of former President Felipe Calderon to new President Enrique Peña Nieto on Dec. 1.
The new appointments include Higher Education Undersecretary Fernando Serrano Migallón and High School Education Undersecretary Rodolfo Tuirán Gutiérrez.
