The National Crusade against Hunger is a strategy of inclusion and social well-being that will be implemented on the basis of a wide-ranging, participatory process designed to combine efforts and funds from the federation, states and municipalities, as well as the public, social and private sectors and international organizations and institutions.

WHO DOES IT TARGET?

The Crusade against Hunger targets those living in extreme, multidimensional poverty conditions, who lack access to food.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE CRUSADE?

1. Zero hunger, through providing adequate food and nutrition for people in extreme multidimensional poverty who lack access to food;
2. Eliminate acute child malnutrition and improve children’s weight and height indicators;
3. Increase food production and boost the incomes of farmers and smallholders;
4. Minimize post-harvest losses and food wastage during storage, transportation, distribution and marketing, and
5. Promote community participation in the eradication of hunger.

WHERE WILL THE NATIONAL CRUSADE AGAINST HUNGER BE IMPLEMENTED?

During the first stage, it will be implemented in four municipalities selected on the basis of the incidence of extreme poverty and the number of people in this condition and people who lack access to food, notwithstanding the fact that its implementation may be extended to other municipalities.

WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF THE NATIONAL SYSTEM FOR THE CRUSADE AGAINST HUNGER?

1.Inter-secretarial commission for the implementation of the Crusade Against Hunger;
2. Comprehensive agreements for inclusive development with the states and municipalities;
3. National Council for the Crusade Against Hunger, and
4. Committees comprising beneficiaries of social programs.

WHO WILL COMPRISE THE INTER-SECRETARIAL COMMISSION FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CRUSADE AGAINST HUNGER?

The heads of the following agencies and entities:
1. The Secretariat of Social Development, which will chair the commission.
2. The Interior Secretariat
3. The Foreign Secretariat
4. The Secretariat of National Defense;
5. The Navy Secretariat;
6. The Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit;
7. The Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources;
8. The Secretariat Energy;
9. The Secretariat of the Economy;
10. The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food;
11. The Secretariat of Communications and Transport;
12. The Secretariat of Education;
13. The Secretariat of Health;
14. The Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare;
15. The Secretariat of Agrarian Development and Urban Planning;
16. The Secretariat of Tourism;
17. The Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples;
18. The National Women’s Institute, and
19. The National System for Integral Family Development.

WHEN WILL THE COMMISSION MEET?

Ordinary meetings will be held at least every three months and extraordinary sessions when necessary, at the request of any of its members. Decisions will be made by majority vote by its members, who will designate their respective representatives, who must belong to the hierarchical level immediately below them.

WHAT IS THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE CRUSADE AGAINST HUNGER?

It is an inclusive body for dialogue between the public, private and social sectors, in order to achieve agreements to strengthen, complement and where appropriate, improve lines of action and more effectively meet the objectives of the Crusade against Hunger.

WHO WILL COMPRISE THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF THE CRUSADE AGAINST HUNGER?

1. The Secretary of Social Development, which will chair the council
2. Representatives of social organizations and private sectors;
3. Representatives of academic institutions, and
4. Representatives of international organizations and institutions.

State governors and the Mexico City Mayor will be permanent guest members of the Council.

WHAT DO THE COMMUNITY COMMITTEES OF THE NATIONAL CRUSADE AGAINST HUNGER CONSIST OF?

In order to coordinate social participation in the Crusade against Hunger and the programs that converge on it, community committees will be established with beneficiaries of social programs. They will participate in their implementation process and monitor the achievement of objectives and the transparency of the actions implemented.
