State Deputy Paul Carrillo de Cáceres, president of the state Congress’ Tourism Committee, said on Sunday that this year’s massive influx of national and international tourists, which exceeded all expectations and predictions for the tourism sector in the state, is a result of the determined efforts of state agencies under the leadership of Governor Roberto Borge Angulo.

Carrillo de Cáceres also acknowledged the work of hoteliers and service providers in representing the state at international tourism fairs in Madrid, Berlin, Moscow and Puerto Vallarta.

The state legislator said that promoting investment in and the stimulation of tourism, including infrastructure improvement and training programs, is helping the state maintain its position as the leading tourist destination in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Tourism, he said, is the core of Quintana Roo’s economy, which is why there has been intense promotion of tourism that is now bearing fruit in more and better tourism, with record-breaking hotel occupancy rates and and price increases in tourist resort areas.

He emphasized the activities of Governor Borge Angulo, who has headed Quintana Roo’s delegations to tourism conventions that have attracted more visitors, and brought more international flights to the region’s airports.

Four thousand hotel rooms, he said, are under construction, mostly in the Mayan Riviera; the transportation sector, he added, has modernized and widened highways to provide for an increased number of tourists arriving by car.

Finally, he said that the tourism industry continues to grow, which guarantees job-creating investments for the people of Quintana Roo and the thousands of Mexicans coming to live in the state.

According to the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Tourism’s (Sectur) website, tourism in Quintana Roo, which is widely perceived as one of the most secure states in the country, is decidedly on the rise.
