Dogs take over the catwalk in Mexico City as pampered pooches show off the latest Spring fashion for canines. (NTDTV)

Pooches were preened and pampered in Mexico City on Wednesday as fashion went to the dogs in the capital for a fashion parade of a different kind.

Teaming up with Mexican designers such as the famed Pineda Covalin, the coveted canines took to the dog-walk to strut their stuff in the latest doggie fashion.

Decked out in the latest spring fashion looks, onlookers were impressed by the prime pooches.

The fashion event was the third of its kind in Mexico City and represents a huge shift in the country's growing pet culture.

Pet-related businesses have flourished in Mexico in recent years with the Latin American country ranked in the world's top 10 for dog-household penetration, according to Euromonitor.

Guest of honor at the fashion show was "Lemon Pay", a canine celebrity who became the darling of dog lovers after his paws were allegedly chopped off by a brutal drug gang.
