The basis for transforming Mexico is education. A well-prepared society is a freer, more conscious and productive society, which controls its own destiny.

On Teacher's Day, at the Los Pinos residence, I congratulated those who have the lofty responsibility of educating our children and youth on their day. Teachers in Mexico have all our respect, admiration and affection.

Therefore, for the first time ever, quality education is an explicit national goal, as important as overcoming poverty, achieving swift, sustained growth or achieving a peaceful Mexico.

In order to advance in this direction, as part of the Pact for Mexico, the ABC of Educational Reform was proposed, which was made possible through the support of the main political forces, lawmakers and citizens.
This reform strengthens public education, since it confirms the compulsory, secular and free nature of state education.

Let no-one attempt to mislead society: Education will not be privatized or concessioned. Education is, and will remain, a public and irrevocable function of the Mexican state.

Teachers of Mexico: Your country needs quality education, which cannot remain the privilege of a few; it should be a right enjoyed by all our children and youth.
