Young people are the center of the violence in the country. “They are the primary victims and perpetrators” of it, said Roberto Campa, Under Secretary of Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation of the Secretariat of Government Relations [SEGOB].
While attending the meeting of the Secretariat for Social Development (SEDESOL) for the exchange of experiences of at risk youth, Campa stated that homicides are the primary cause of death among the population between 15 and 29 years of age.
He added, “There are sufficient statistics on other dimensions, but this one is fundamental. Young people are at the center of the phenomenon of violence in the country and we have to work intensely with them, because if we do not solve the problem of the youth, we will not be solving the issue of violence.”
