MEXICO CITY – A 38-year old man, originally from Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, died recently in the courtyard of the General Hospital of Guaymas, Sonora, where he had waited five days for medical attention, which had been denied due to lack of availability of medical services and his lack of money.
José Sánchez Carrasco arrived at the port of Guaymas days earlier, however, due to the fact he became dehydrated from walking in the sun, he showed symptoms of malnutrition, and although he went to the General Hospital for medical attention, it was denied and he died there.
It should be noted that Sánchez Carrasco was treated days earlier, however when it was learned that he did not have any social security program and no money, he was told to leave as he could not be given proper treatment since it cost money. The homeless man decided to stay in the hospital courtyard so his situation would not become worse.
After remaining there for five days, literally laying on the ground in the General Hospital courtyard, the unfortunate homeless man died without any doctor providing even minimal attention.
