Mobile Class Students |
Did you know that this year, PEACE (Protection, Education, Animals, Culture, Environment) will provide more than 190,000 hours of education, 52,000+ meals, 15,000 hours of community beautification work, and 4,000+ animal sterilizations? Pretty cool!
Every single week, PEACE is making an impact in towns throughout Nayarit and Jalisco. Read about PEACE progress this week below, and sign up for upcoming events and volunteer opportunities!
Programa de Ayuda a los Animales (Help the Animals Program):
Kids flock to every PEACE animal clinic, attracted to all of the pets. This provides a great opportunity to teach them a little more about the animals they love. PEACE has a mobile classroom which accompanies the spay and neuter clinic each week and offers free workshops that focus on animal care, wildlife and protection of the environment. Each educational workshop lasts three days, during the same hours as the clinic.
Needed items for the PEACE mobile clinic include:
• 15 folding chairs
• 3-4 fold-up tables
• a large lona/tent (big enough for workshop space)
• water based paint (all colors) and cloth to paint on
• pencils and pens
• portable CD player
• small color printer
• construction paper and printing paper
• modeling clay
• disposable cameras
To contribute towards these items with an in-kind donation, please write emily@peacemexico.org or contribute monetarily by clicking here. Thank you for supporting these little global citizens!
Next week's clinic will be in Bucerias. Bring a dog or cat to be spayed or neutered, Wednesday through Saturday beginning at 9.30 am. Upcoming Clinic Schedule:
Bucerias - Wednesday, November 23, 2011 through Saturday, November 26, 2011
Punta de Mita - Wednesday, November 30, 2011 through Saturday, December 3, 2011
Huatulco - Wednesday, December 7, 2011 through Saturday, December 10, 2011

Programa de Casa Comunidad (Community House Program):
The PEACE alternative school provides "at-risk" local children with the opportunity to complete elementary and middle school through INEA (Instituto Nacional para la Educacion de los Adultos.) Free academic classes and lunch take place from 9 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday at PEACE headquarters in Punta de Mita. Participants in the alternative school do not attend public school for a variety of reasons including missing birth certificates, lack of funds, behavioral or transportation issues, or lack of interest on behalf of parents. A staff psychologist works with alternative school students on a group and individual basis using interactive activities to address some of the pressing needs of each student.
This week, PEACE started providing milk to the students when they first arrive at school. Some of the alternative school students only eat at PEACE, and haven't eaten since lunch the day before. If you'd like to provide milk for the children for a day, please donate $15 here. This gift will kick-start their day and allow them to concentrate in class. Thank you for helping them grow and learn!
Programa de Orgullo en la Comunidad (Community Pride Program):
There were 260 items and 1,000 pesos collected at the Mega in Bucerias last Saturday! PEACE is at the Mega every second Saturday of the month from 10am – 2pm collecting donations for the Work for Food program, in which community members complete two hours of town beautification projects in exchange for 70 pesos of food. The next PEACE table will be on Saturday, December 10th. Come donate food, adopt a pet, or show your support! Contact Sue at sioux4noff@gmail.com for more information.
