Wow! Life in La Cruz just keeps getting better and better!

In addition to long time favorite Doctors Hector and Alonso Pimienta’s medical office and pharmacy at #41 Coral and the Clinica de Salud on Calle Atun, we now have The La Cruz Walk-in Clinic with Doctors Rafael Ipiña and Hector Llanos.

Not only do we now have 2 more great physicians in town but they also both speak English! That’s certainly a plus for me!

The clinic has also added a Cardiologist, Dr. Carlos Hernandez and an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Oscar Villa, to the team and are in negotiations with a female gynecologist and hopefully soon a dentist and radiologist.

How much better can it get? Oh yes – it can get better – as you enter the door, local residents Leticia Vasquez and Marypaz Robles are in the pharmacy to greet you with their big, friendly smiles. At the current time, not all doctors are in the clinic full-time, but are only a phone call away.

Along with routine and emergency medical visits the clinic offers laboratory services, oxygen, nebulizer treatments, EKG’s, vaccinations, access to ambulance services and house calls (to boats also). Doctors Llanos and Ipiña have long term goals of a staffed 24 hour clinic to handle all of La Cruz’ medical emergencies.

The fantastic care of the doctors has already made quite an impression with several local residents who offer the following glowing comments:

“I was recently treated by Dr. Rafael Ipina and was impressed with his gentle manner, the privacy he afforded me, his very professional practices, his thorough explanations of what was happening, his compassion, and his sterile technique with dressings and injections. He has an interesting technique with injections so you do not even feel the needle going in. No need to be nervous!

My own background is in nursing and health so I was very aware of proper technique and appropriate treatment. Dr. Rafael Ipina surpassed my expectations. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone. His manner is so gentle that people of any age can be comfortable with him.” - Carolyn Sams

“The best doctor we have ever had. We have referred many people to Raphael. He’s always been there for us!” - B&J Pierce

“Last week when I took a fall I cracked a rib. Dr. Hector Llanos attended to me. My husband called his office and he came to the house within 15 minutes. He spent an hour with me and was very attentive to my problem while examining me with the utmost care. I was given a shot to reduce my pain. He ask that I get an x-ray to confirm his suspicions of a cracked or broken rib. He came to the house once again to read the rib photo and the crack was identified positively.

I am now taking daily pain medication along with muscle relaxers and complying with his recommendation to rest (for a month).  My husband Russell now understands mopping floors. In the week that has passed since then, Dr. Hector has called to check on me five times. He seems to be a very concerned young man. The Doctor has good English both conversationally and technically. We speak Spanish but in cases like this we prefer to converse in English if possible. I want the folks in La Cruz to know he is here for us along with Dr. Pimienta on Calle Coral.”  Lori Cresto

A seasonal resident, Dennis Gowler, presented to the clinic after a fall and was referred to Dr. Oscar Villa. Dr. Villa suspected a fracture and drove Dennis and his wife Doreen to Cornerstone Hospital in Puerto Vallarta for x-rays. They were already surprised that a Dr. would take the time do this for a patient, but were really knocked out of their seats when Dr. Raphael showed up at Cornerstone to check on the progress.

In Doreen and Dennis words “Afterwards Dr. Villa called Dennis and I into a consultation room, where he gave us his diagnosis, and he wrote up a prescription for three medications, and a prescription for an ointment. Dr. Villa drove us back to Bucerias, to Dr. Raphael’s office. Dr. Villa went next door to the pharmacy and returned with Dennis’ three medications, and explained them to us. Dr. Raphael gave Dennis a much more secure, bulky, arm/shoulder sling, and showed Dennis how to wear it. All in all, we were extremely pleased with the care of both of these doctors, and would highly recommend either of them.” – Doreen and Dennis Gowler
