Galería200 celebrated its opening with two invitation-only cocktail parties earlier this year.
The gallery is unique in that it will be open only during its evening charity events.
This year's four upcoming events will benefit the following well-respected organizations, each receiving 15% of the gallery's share of sales for its event:
• PEACE Ayuda a Los Animales
• The Paradise Community Center
• The Boutique Theatre
• Biblioteca Los Mangos Public Library
In addition to Mexican antiques, including a strong selection of ceremonial masks, Galería200 will feature the work of only 2 artists, CAPELO and his son Javier Cruz.
CAPELO, one of Mexico's most respected fine artists, is famous for his architectural designs, oil paintings, mixed media sculpture and ceramics. Other than in museums and his own Guanajuato galleries, CAPELO'S work has been difficult to find in Mexico.
Galería200 is now the only other gallery in Mexico with a regular showing of CAPELO’S work.
Galería200 is the creation of Gerald Rapp. For over 25 years, Rapp was America's foremost illustration agent, representing over 50 of the world's leading commercial illustrators.
Says Rapp, "I had toyed with the idea of opening a fine art gallery for years, but never had the time. After I retired and moved part-time to Mexico eight years ago, a friend of mine in Guanajuato introduced me to CAPELO. I was amazed by his work, bought ten pieces for my home and knew immediately that CAPELO was the artist that I would build my gallery around. I also wanted to work with less well-established son, but to my mind, equally talented, Javier Cruz."
Galería200 is a gem of a gallery. Formerly a charming old cottage a block from the Bay of Banderas, it has been updated in areas to best showcase CAPELO’S contemporary Mexican style.
Adjacent to the gallery is a charming sculpture garden with a built-in seating area, stone bar and lovely cantera fountain as its centerpiece.
The gallery’s first charity event will benefit The Boutique Theatre and will be held on Monday, March 11, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Karrie Sebryk's Boutique Theatre is located at the corner of Naranjo and Basilio Badillo streets. The nonprofit theatre is in its 3rd season and continually receives rave reviews for its wide variety of amateur productions.
The second benefit this season will be held on Monday, March 25, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm in support of PEACE´s "Ayuda a los Animales". This program provides a mobile free clinic serving the area of the Bay of Banderas 48 weeks a year. In 2012, over 4,000 cats and dogs were sterilized, thus preventing the future suffering of unwanted pets. PEACE has tax-free status in the U.S, Canada and Mexico.
Monday, April 8, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm will benefit The Paradise Community Center, an international, non-profit, faith-based community center located in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. The Paradise Community Center serves social, educational, cultural, not-for-profit, and other special events for the Puerto Vallarta community.
The fourth event which will benefit the Puerto Vallarta Public Library, Biblioteca Los Mangos, will be announced soon, so please check back for details.
Galería200 is proud to have Patron Tequila as a sponsor for all of its charity events. All evenings dedicated to selected charities and non-profits will include complimentary Patron Margaritas, hors-d’oeuvres and live music.
Rapp comments, "My goal was to combine my love for art and antiques by offering a wonderful collection here in Vallarta and at the same time raise monies for local charities and nonprofit organizations."
Galería200 is located at 128 Santa Barbara, in Conchas Chinas, one-half mile south of the River Cuale between Highway 200 and Calle Santa Barbara on the turn to Conchas Chinas Beach. The gallery is open by appointment only. Telephone is (322) 221-5834, email is firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit Galería200.
