Amigos de La Cruz Voted to Cancel Funding in Action For Food Program
We are writing you to ask for your help.
As you may have heard by now (read article HERE), funding previously provided by Amigos De La Cruz for the Action For Food (formerly called Work For Food) program in La Cruz was eliminated by vote this last Tuesday at a meeting of the Amigos Board.
Following the vote, attendees at the monthly Amigos dinner meeting were told that Amigos would continue to support Action For Food and the "efforts of Connie & Landon" in our continued endeavors in boosting and promoting the program, but they will not continue the funding.
The fact is, that without Amigos' monetary input (of 1,100 pesos per week), the program is very much in jeopardy.
Luckily, with the 20,000 pesos we were able to raise at events that we produced this past year (Party in the Park and Taste of La Cruz) we had been able to continue the salary of our La Cruz Administrator (Elena Munguia) since July and had planned forward for four and a half months. But now missing is the approximately 4,400 pesos per month that buys the actual food and supplies (despensas) for the workers who benefit from this self-empowering program.
So, the separation of salary and supply costs will be combined (now that 2 separate organizations are no longer funding separate functions of the program which was part of the original deal struck between PEACE and Amigos De La Cruz). Thus, the funds on hand previously earmarked for salary can pay for the entire program for only five weeks.
We are asking those of you who understand just how important and vital this program is for La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to consider a sponsorship of one month ($545 USD). We realize this is a huge request. You can make your donation by following the link HERE to the PEACE donation web page, and please email Landon at email@example.com to advise us of the contribution so that we can advise PEACE that the contribution is for La Cruz Action For Food. Of course, any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated.
We will be following up with a PayPal® site on InsideLaCruz.com (with a dedicated bank account- that's the hangup) soon and will advise you when that is up and running.
If you have any questions, thoughts, or would like to make a local direct contribution please email Landon & Connie at firstname.lastname@example.org or US telephone is (314) 774-0544, Mexico cellular is (322) 116-4731.

It is very important to note that Amigos de La Cruz had no option at this point in suspending the funding because the funds just don't exist right now. Lori Wilson wrote: "It's not that the Amigos won't continue funding the program - we simply can't continue because the money isn't there. We were forced to make the difficult decision to suspend our contribution until we can find funding. We would love it if we could find donors to help keep this very worthwhile program intact. Some of the women who benefit from this are my neighbors and I would like nothing better than to be able to continue supporting them and their families."
