Welcome to Puerto Vallarta's Greatest Springtime Celebration!
From May 17 to 25, come and be among the first to enjoy the Puerto Vallarta Bougainvillea Festival (the Spanish word is 'Bugambilia'). This year will introduce the First Annual Festival in Puerto Vallarta.
The Festival produces and coordinates daily events featuring diverse and creative programming promoting traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty, and community spirit.
Events are primarily free and open to the public.
The First Annual Bugambilia festival kicks off Friday, May 17 at 7:30 pm with a Malecon Candlelight Procession.
This event is perfect for all ages, young and old.
To join in the fun, bring along a lantern or candle and meet at Hotel Rosita before walking the Malecon and finishing at Las Cardenas Park.
Saturday night, May 18, come to a Fiesta Mexicana in the Zona Romantica. It is preceded by a "Crown of the Dead" and "Catrina" parade at 6:30 pm where the start location will be Hidalgo Park. Prizes and awards for these parades will be awarded at the Fiesta.
On Wednesday and Thursday, May 22 and 23, meet at 10:00 am at the Central Plaza near the Church and take a free guided walking tour of plants and vistas with some history of Old Town Vallarta.
Throughout the week the Expedition of Floral Sculptures is not to be missed.
There are many other activities through the week. For a schedule, go to Vallarta Garden Club or Facebook, Bugambilia Festival (in English or Spanish).

Ciudad de las Bugambilias - Beautification of Puerto Vallarta Project. The idea for Ciudad de las Bugambilias or Bougainvillea City is based on creating an annual festival in Puerto Vallarta similar to the Cherry Blossom Festivals held annually in Washington, DC, and Vancouver, BC. Cherry Blossom Festivals attract thousands of visitors from around the world and the beauty of bougainvillea could generate the same interest for Vallarta. The Puerto Vallarta Garden Club is the sponsor.
