Villa Mandarinas Puerto Valarta Mexico Property Rental (promovision)

Mismaloya’s newest and brightest jewel is Villa Mandarinas. This architectural masterpiece cascades down six beautiful tiers of native vegetation, dramatic cliffs and colorful gardens overlooking the beach and cove where The Night of the Iguana was filmed.

Originally named "Las Peñas" (the boulders) in 1541 by Captain Don Pedro de Alvarado, the Los Arcos Island Preserve looms impressively off the shore of Villa Mandarinas. Considered the centerpiece of the best views in Banderas Bay, Los Arcos stars as the highlight of every vista in the home.

When you turn into Villa Mandarinas beautiful stone driveway, you are invited to enter the estate by the fluid and graceful opening of the soaring accordion garage doors. Made of honey colored primavera wood, these doors are only the first example of the innovation and beauty this estate holds.

When you pull through the doors and park at the zenith of the cliffs of Mismaloya, you are greeted by the best view you have had on the entire journey. Guests tend to be inspired so much from this view that they race from their cars to see what other vistas await them. This view, the first of many, will stay with you the longest, because when you eventually must leave, it will be the last view of this awe inspiring place you will take with you. This is the one downside to this amazing home, it is very difficult to leave.

As with so many things in this part of the world, Villa Mandarinas is all about your perspective. The home is welcoming to its guest while being all but invisible to the outside world. It’s comfortable but luxurious ambience allows a person to gradually free themselves from the pressures of every day life, while still having all of the conveniences, amenities and connectivity a person could need.

The home remains open and spacious regardless of your location. Soaring ceilings, and conjoined great rooms open onto terraces, bedrooms, landings and patios throughout the house and the myriad variety of windows, glass doors and openings to the views offers one the sensation of a home that is truly married to the environment.

The cathedral like openness makes the absolute privacy of the home that much more surprising. Villa Mandarinas’ orientation to the Bay of Banderas allows guests unequalled and unobstructed views of this paradisiacal setting, while at the same time allowing for complete privacy and security to the guests within.

The entry above shows little of the 8 room estate below, it’s non-descript outward appearance is considered an enormous asset to the guests of the home who require not just the appearance of privacy, but the essence of that security as well.

Each of the seven master bedrooms has a spectacular view of the bay with individual private terraces shaded by bamboo which gracefully compliments the colors of the estate. The unique features of each master bathroom speak to the creativity and artistic inspiration of Villa Mandarinas’ designers. In one bedroom a half ton sink has been carved from a volcanic boulder so massive that the piece was installed and the room was built around it. Two of the master bathrooms share a single monolithic boulder stretching through two floors to bind the rooms with the natural elements of the land. In another master bathroom, a custom window offers a graceful curve of etched glass that accents the view of Los Arcos across the bay.

Four custom made hand blown chandeliers were commissioned to complement the loftiness of the home and accent the home’s custom furniture elements. The chandelier in the dining room hovers below the ceiling illuminating the one of a kind sabino wood table carved from a single tree. 16 guests with room for more can sit at this amazing table, and the view from the table over the infinity pool and across the bay to the islands in the distance is nothing short of amazing.

The stairs, made from beautiful dark stained haya wood, act as the visual hub of the home. The base of the stairs below flows organically into a massive boulder bisecting the kitchen and dining area from the main living room. The architect chose to leave this stone in place in order to organically connect the estate with its surroundings.

The road to Mismaloya is one of the most beautiful drives in all of Jalisco. The road curves from the Southern end of Puerto Vallarta, meandering between lush tropical fauna and pristine beaches and coves reaching out to the famous Los Arcos Island Preserve. Villa Mandarinas’ distinctive architecture and unique colors can be seen from the coastal road miles away, emerging from behind Los Arcos and then disappearing behind the cove where Richard Burton and Liz Taylor fell in love with Mexico.

Villa Mandarinas offers its guests an amenity unique even in the community of Mismaloya, the ability to arrive at your destination from the land or the sea.

When you approach the estate by water, the home’s earthy and vibrant colors draw your eye from miles away. The property’s dramatic castle walls rising to the terraces, gardens and lawns above grow more and more impressive as you pass Los Arcos and continue over the water to the estate. When you step off the boat onto Villa Mandarinas’ private pier the final chapter of the estate’s story is presented to you as the first. A private beach on one side of the property balances itself against a spacious natural salt water pool on the other. These features are completely unique and are an expression of Architect Alberto Alvarez’s vision of what a home this amazing deserves.

The nature of this home is such that words and pictures can only offer a suggestion of the homes unique beauty, location and the inspiration of its architect and designer. Those who are fortunate enough to visit this estate will come away with a true understanding of what it is to live “La Pura Vida.”
