Puerto Vallarta and Cancun are among the 10 Latin cities preferred to vacation for the LGBT community. Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires are also in the list from a global survey conducted by global agency Out Now.
Miguel Gonzalez Gonzalez, Director of Tourism of the Ministry of Tourism of Jalisco, said the government participates in various tourism fairs and acts as "facilitator" to bring buyers and sellers together.
Although he said it is not a state policy to encourage these links, they are potential tourist customers with a very important economic impact for the destination. He also said that "we are determined to support this segment. While representing the business opportunity we will also be looking for ways to be facilitators."
The emerging market for gay wedding celebration includes two major categories:
• Couples who marry in Mexico City before a judge that validates their union and then celebrate in Puerto Vallarta or Cancun with family and friends.
• Symbolic Weddings like commitment ceremonies.
The average packages in either cases ranging from $30,000 and $200,000 pesos, depending on the number of people.
