We received the following email at PVAngels from Caitlin Koch of the Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, Texas.

They have a Mexican child who is dying from colon cancer whose last wish is to visit his cousins in Guadalajara.

Can you help make this child's dream come true?

Hi,

I am a child life specialist on the Pediatric Palliative Medicine team at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, TX, USA. We have a 14 year old boy from Mexico who is dying from colon cancer, and we are trying to help him and his family get back to Guadalaraja before he dies. The patient and his family have been in the United States for a number of years, though all are Mexican citizens.

The patient has been unable to see his family in Mexico since coming to the US, and his final wish is to see his cousins before he dies. The family is willing to sacrifice life in the US (they won't be able to come back) so that their son can die in Mexico.

Unfortunately, they do not have any resources to make this possible. Our hospital and hospice service have been in contact with Hospice Cristina in Guadalajara to see what services might be available to this patient, and we have received a small amount of cash to help with transportation. However, we still need to find a way to get the rest of the family to Mexico, as well as their belongings. Help in covering medical expenses may also be needed, depending on what Hospice Cristina is able to offer.

I am wondering if you have any ideas about how we can make this patient's final wish a reality. Time is short, as he likely only has a week or two to live. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated! He is an incredible child who has fought hard for the last several years, and deserves to be able to say goodbye to his family.

Thank you for your help!

Caitlin Koch
