The Library is being used as a training and information center for teachers in the new state wide program 'Ingles para Todos en Mexico' ('English is for Everybody in Mexico').

Dear Friends and Members, Welcome back!!

The library had a busy (and HOT) summer. Over the months of July, August and September 16 to 20 children and adults visited the library per day. As we have begun a new school year, I thought it was time to let you all know about our plans, our schedule and events coming
up in the next few months.

New Librarian: Please come by and meet our new librarian Norma Ortega.

Norma is bilingual, a trained teacher and the mother of two children ages 8 and 10. She is also beautiful, funny and smart…I can say this because she is also my wife! I will continue, on a volunteer basis, to be the Director of the library.

Fall/Winter Schedule

Norma will be managing a homework club Monday through Friday, encouraging children to bring their homework and get the help they need finding resources at the library.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays she is planning art and craft projects integrated with Language Arts (such as making puppets and writing and performing a play).

On Fridays, Norma will be promoting a book club. Children will be encouraged to read independently and will be rewarded with free time on the computers. Norma will be checking the children for fluency and comprehension.

Norma will be focusing on English acquisition on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4 to 5 pm.

Saturdays our wonderful Volunteer and Board member Mary Carmen Pickup will continue in providing activities and encouraging reading as she has for the last two years.

If you would like to help with any of these activities please call Norma at the library weekdays 1 to 5 pm at (329) 298-3334.

Take the Books to the People!

In order to get more books out into the community and into the hands of children and adults we have decided to begin a literacy outreach program. Volunteers from the library will be visiting the local public school and the Tercer Edad Senior Center once a week to issue library cards and check in and out books. If you would like to help with the outreach program, please contact Sue Usry at 295- 9073.

Training Site for Teachers

The Library is being used as a training and information center for teachers in the new state wide program 'Ingles para Todos en Mexico' ('English for Everybody in Mexico'). Their presence provides the library with more exposure in the community. The program is going to donate books to the library to thank us for our support.

Get Your Beautiful 2014 Calendar

Now on sale for 180 pesos available at various local stores or from Jeanne Tompson at 298-2809 or Sue Usry at 295-9073. This is our biggest fundraiser! Your support will be very much appreciated.

Donations

We have received a variety of wonderful donations over the last 4 months including over 500 books in Spanish for both children and adults.

A computer and various craft and school supplies have been donated.

We now have beautiful red curtains on the windows (thanks to Jeanne Tompson’s sewing skills).

If you would like to donate something to the library, contact Norma at 298-3334 Monday to Friday, 1 to 5 pm.

We always need craft supplies (colored paper, paint glue etc.). We would love to have a DVD player and a good TV. We need a scanner and, of course, computers.  But most of all BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS in Spanish for children and young adults. I was not able to go to the International Book Fair in Guadalajara this year due to the expense it would incur.

A Brand New Facility!!

Thanks to Manny Venegas we have the architectural plans for a new community center and library remodeling project. Come to the Library to see the proposed new plan. The plans were donated by: Noventa Grados + Arquitectura.

Please come by and visit us soon and thank you for your continued support. Biblioteca Publica Rey Nayar is located in Bucerias, Riviera Nayarit, at Camino Viejo al Valle #949.
