Jordan loves his new Christmas tree! |
A Home for the Holidays!
In the summer of 2012, Dra. Eva noticed that one of our shelter cats was limping and X-rays revealed that “Lucky” had broken his back leg in three places….we’ll never know how.
We decided this sweetie was worth saving and after surgery by a local specialist, a metal splint and two months of healing at the clinic, he was ready to resume life at the shelter.
But fate intervened in the form of PuRR volunteer Eric Grossman!! Just in time for Christmas, Eric and husband Frank Glinsky welcomed him into their home and their hearts.
He is now called Jordan but it turns out he was pretty “lucky” after all!

Donating to PuRR
Our shelter is supported solely by donations and December is the PuRR-fect month to do just that! It makes a great Holiday gift to that cat lover in your family and tax exempt receipts are now available for US Dollar donations.
You may also consider making a donation in memory of a friend’s beloved pet and PuRR will send a personal message on your behalf. Go to our website for more information.
Our goal for January is to raise enough money to purchase a new washer & dryer. For years the shelter only had one old washing machine on the porch that had to be filled with a hose and laundry hung on the fence to dry!! But in 2011, thanks to a generous gift, we were able to purchase a new washer/dryer and also install plumbing/electricity for it in the bodega.
But you would not BELIEVE how much laundry 150 cats and a family of 5 generate and they are in use constantly. The washing machine has been repaired several times this year and is on it’s last legs so we need to be prepared for that expense. And every dollar or peso contribution will help us meet that goal!

Have Papers – Will Travel!
Thanks to all who responded when we put out the plea for an angel to transport a kitty from Puerto Vallarta to Vancouver last month!! Mission accomplished!
We are OFTEN asked about bringing a cat back to the States or Canada and it’s not very difficult! You need a soft carrier that will fit under the seat, a reservation for your pet with your airline and a travel/health certificate issued by a local vet.
Just recently, kitties Dexter “Fioriono” and Rocky “Esposito” went to Chicago, Misha “Domilovskiy” to Coquitlan, BC, and Delilah “Vanderthal” to Laguna Beach, California!!
Teresa Benoit contacted us at adopt@purrproject.com in November about the possibility of adding a second Mexican kitty to their family, even though they had no plans to visit Vallarta this year. Her only requirement was a female with a calm, quiet, affectionate, mellow, & sweet personality ….and we had a great candidate: 8-month old Penelope Garcia.
After a flurry of e-mails, she was soon her way north thanks to angel Kerry Ward. Unfortunately, a flight delay meant arrival was after 1:00 a.m. in the morning so poor Teresa didn’t get much sleep that night!
She reports that “Selena” has now met her new siblings, Snuggles and Solana, and the whole family thinks she is PuRR-fect. We look forward to more photos and updates.

Top Ten Reasons To Adopt a Cat
"Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as Gods. Cats have never forgotten this.” Anonymous Quote
It’s true……..the ancient Egyptians regarded the cat as a sacred creature. It was in Egypt that the cat was first domesticated 4,000 years ago and these small creatures were so fascinating that the culture was devoted to protecting them. The penalty for killing a cat was death. Exportation of cats was forbidden and ancient documents reveal it was not uncommon for entire armies to be sent to recapture cats smuggled to foreign lands. OK, maybe that’s carrying it a little too far, but there are still many good reasons why YOU should have at least one furry feline god or goddess in your home today! I offer PURR PROJECT’S Top Ten Reasons To Adopt a Cat:
1) They groom themselves
2) They’re good listeners
3) They share their catch
4) They’ll share your bed, but never ask for alimony
5) They don’t need to be walked

6) They never tell your secrets
7) They like to play ping-pong
8) They know when you need a cuddle
9) They don’t get upset when you come home late
10) They set the bar in softness
On a serious note, the emotional and mental rewards are so great within you when you open yourself up to experience the gratitude and love of a rescued animal. (They can also lower your blood pressure!) PuRR Project has adult cats and kittens of every size and color just waiting for someone to take them home from our shelter. Come see a selection every Thursday at Walmart Nuevo from 10 – 2 or Plaza Marina on Fridays from 11 – 1.
Feliz Navidad! Buon Natale! Joyeux Noel! Merry Christmas!
All the volunteers and feline residents of the PuRR Project would like to thank you for your support in 2013 and wish you a happy holiday season and a “Prospero Ano Nuevo”!!
We invite you to add your charity or supporting organizations' news stories and coming events to PVAngels so we can share them with the world. Do it now!
