"Somos El Futuro" (We Are The Future) is a short documentary about the kids living in the small town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit, Mexico. (endlessadventures)

This just in from Amigo Kathleen Dobek: ”Centro Comunitario La Cruz is building a playground in La Cruz for the children in the colony, the neighborhood across the highway.

It will be between the kindergarten and the soccer field.

"There isn't any place in La Cruz for the kids to play. There is not a futball area, or a basketball area, or a skate park or anything," states Renacer Skate.

Please join us in financing building materials. You can do this by going to El Jardin Del Pulpo (Octopus's Garden), aka Hikuri, and selecting a coupon of a certain amount from a chart that details the materials still needed, taking this coupon to the materials store Toteca in La Cruz on the lateral, and redeeming it for a particular building need.

Sacks of cement, gravel, posts, are some of the items needed.

El Jardin del Pulpo is located at Coral 66 in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Telephone is (329) 295-5367.

Centro Comunitario La Cruz is a project headed by Jason Foster Barnes of the Cooperativa Huanacaxtle and can be found on Facebook.

Let’s help the kids finally have a playground!

About the Video - Published on Jan 5, 2014. "Somos El Futuro" is a short documentary about the kids living in the small town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. A lot of time, hard work, and love went into making it and I could not have done it without the help of Alyssa Conley who did all the interviews or Julio Salgado who narrated and did all the translation. And of course, lets not forget Jason Foster Barnes, head of Semilla Negra, who came to me with the idea of making this film in the first place.

The reason we all came together for this is because we all feel so passionately about the subject matter. We believe that it is so important for kids to be able to play, learn, discover and create, and here in La Cruz there are very few opportunities for them to do so. Right now Jason is working hard on a project called Centro Comunitario La Cruz (CCC) which is focused on getting a recreational center put in that will have a playground, sports equipment, a skate park, workshops, and other activities for the kids there.

Part of the reason for making this video was to create awareness and to gain support so that we can make that a reality. If you would like to find out how to support Centro Comunitario La Cruz and the kids of La Cruz, please send an email to Centro Comunitario La Cruz.
