Volunteer in Mexico at EntreAmigos in Riviera Nayarit (Canadian Traveller Magazine)

Volunteers are the reason that EntreAmigos in San Pancho, Riviera Nayarit, is able to do so much with so little funding.

We LOVE our volunteers and depend on them for most projects and programs.

Please consider volunteering, there are many fun projects and it is always a great way to meet people and feel part of the community. …You might learn a bit of spanish too!

We offer PANCHOS for volunteers who are able to commit to a regular schedule. To learn more about PANCHOS at EntreAmigos, visit our Community Currency page.

The following volunteer opportunities are currently open. If you would like to become a volunteer please send an email to info@entreamigos.org.mx.

Date: Monday-Friday, 2:00-6:00 pm, Saturday 10:00-2:00 pm.

Activities: Reading circle, homework help, book organizing and sorting (especially the English section), general organizational help and occasional special projects. You can choose the area that you are most interested in.

Requirements: No spanish necessary although you will learn quickly. We ask for a 1 day a week minimum commitment or advance notice for “one time” or occasional volunteer help.

Benefits for you: Forget all those spanish classes and boring grammar books… we’ll have you fluent and street savvy in just a few weeks!

Construction and Maintenance

Date: As your schedule allows.

Activities: Library maintenance and special projects at the public schools. Mostly shelf building, light electrical, painting, planting and simple installation jobs. We will be building and repairing chairs and desks for the public school and working on classroom improvement projects.

Requirements: General handyman knowledge or the willingness to pick up a paintbrush. Tools are always appreciated but EntreAmigos has most basic construction tools available.

Benefits for you: Help fulfill critical needs in San Pancho schools, meet local residents in joint work projects, build strong”er” muscles and gets some exercise! The girls at EntreAmigos will dote on you and regularly say things like “hero” while in your presence

Imaginarte Gallery and Recycle Shop

Date: Monday–Saturday, 10:00-2:00 or 2:00-6:00. All shifts available. Sunday 11:00-3:00 pm.

Activities: We need ENGLISH SPEAKING help for the Imaginarte Gallery and Bilingual help for Recicla Shop. No experience necessary. You can use the computer and internet while you are working! We are looking for people who are able to share information about EntreAmigos and the work that we do, while handling simple sales transactions.

Requirements: Honesty, punctuality and friendliness. Simple math skills… although we have plenty of calculators!

Benefits for you: Meet many new people, share in the busy, productive energy of EntreAmigos, learn about the diverse artist community of San Pancho, practice your spanish, help make a difference for children and families in San Pancho… and surf the web to your heart’s content!

Workshop Leaders and Teachers

Date: Afternoons, flexible.

Activities/Requirements: Share your unique skills with the children or women of San Pancho. We need english teachers of all skill levels…or without skills but with lots of patience. We need art workshop leaders for children and adults, and we are always looking for diverse short term workshop leaders… anyone ride a unicycle? Some spanish is certainly helpful.

Benefits for you: You will be the light, the one, the most amazing awe inspiring teacher to the masses… what could be any better?

Cooks and Bakers

Date: Wednesdays at 10:15 am and every other Thursday at 5:00 pm.

Activities/Requirements: The ability to make a food type dish once a week or once a month. Wednesday is “lunch” at the elementary school with the teachers (10 people). Thursday is EntreAmigos staff meeting and we like sweet, fattening and mostly chocolatey goodies!

Benefits to you: Well… technically you are providing the ENERGY that propels all of the people that work to improve the education of children in San Pancho… talk about inspired cooking!

Again, if you would like more information about our volunteer opportunities or if we are lucky enough to have you join our efforts, please email us at info@entreamigos.org.mx.
