The PEACE Internship & Career Development Program gives college and graduate students in the US and Mexico the opportunity to improve their foreign language and leadership skills while providing a unique educational opportunity to public school children in Mexico.

Kristen, a participant from last year's program, reflected on her experience, "full of new experiences for the interns, we saw the many different aspects of not only the organization, but also the Mexican culture as a whole. We were forced to adjust to the differences in the culture, while being able to work hand-in-hand with the kids and adults from the community. On top of that, we lived within the community in which we were helping, which made a huge difference."

This summer, the program returns to offer participants the opportunity to excel in a global work environment. PEACE interns learn experientially alongside staff members, gaining tremendously valuable work experience and bettering communities throughout the Bay of Banderas.

Interns work with local teachers and PEACE staff to teach local elementary and middle school students during the 3-week summer camp. Each intern is responsible for shaping the educational experience for a class of 10 - 15 students.

Elementary themes include ecology, art, sports, and theater, while the middle school student's curriculum is focused on developing entrepreneurial skills. By the end of the camp, each class completes the process of creating an entrepreneurial venture, and the elementary school students present their themed projects to their class.

The 5-week Internship and Career Development program takes place in Punta Mita. Interns spend the first week getting to know the area and working on community projects such as making community gardens, painting houses, or building parks.

They receive valuable formal training, which they carry out in practice during three weeks of camp counseling and teaching.
