'Race With a Cause' in Puerto Vallarta Supports Women with Breast Cancer Team Angels/Ricardo - Observatorio Bahia

The Municipal Institute for Women in coordination with the Bennu Group AC invites people to participate on Sunday July 5, 2015 at 8:00 am in the Agustin Flores Contreras Sports Stadium in the 'Recreational Race with a Cause' ('La Carrera Recreativa con Causa') to raise funds for the civil association that works to support women with breast cancer.

The participation fee is 50 pesos per person, there will be no categories and the amount collected and the number of participants will be announced the same day to provide greater transparency.

Sara Maria Chavez, head of the Municipal Institute of Women, said the goal of the race is to raise as much funds as possible which will enable the purchase of special sleeves for women who lost one of her breasts as part of their cancer treatment.

"Women with breast cancer who have had their breast removed have also had the lymph nodes removed. This means that they no longer have good circulation in the arms and need massage and special sleeve to  improve circulation. These sleeves are expensive and there are many women here in Puerto Vallarta who have lost one of her breasts and through our joint work, we seek to support them," she said.

She continued that it is very important that the Race receive active participation by our population showing support and strengthening social awareness about this disease.

"Remember that no one is exempt from this disease. Puerto Vallarta has high rates of suffering from breast cancer and it is important that we all join in this fight and assume that responsibility as a society; Breast cancer does not distinguish age, social status, or academic preparation."

Registration can be done the same day of the race, beginning at 7:00 am at the Sports Stadium (across from the Sheraton), at the Municipal Institute for Women located in the former Regional Hospital location, telephone (322) 178-7529, or visit the Bennu Group office in Pitillal at the corner of 16 de Septiembre and Independence.
