Victor Manuel Cornejo Lopez, head of the meteorological unit of the University Center of the Coast (CUCosta) reported that after reviewing the final numbers and records of June this year and its comparison with previous years, "we have experienced the hottest June of the past 10 years in Puerto Vallarta."
He said one of the reasons for the heat was that we just had a single storm this year instead of more storms distributed throughout the month, which cools the Banderas Bay temps a bit.
He exemplified that in June 2013 we had five storms with an average of 120 millimeters of water, while in June this year we had a single storm with an average of 100 millimeters.
He added that in the Puerto Vallarta area we normally have an average of 170 millimeters of rainfall in June, again explaining the added heat.
The weatherman said that the average temperature in June last year was 28.5 degrees Celsius (83.3 F), while this year will exceed 30 degrees Celsius (86 F) average, due to the lack of rain.
Last year the maximum temperature was recorded on June 2 when the thermometer reached 33.7 degrees Celsius (92.66 F), while on this occasion were several days that exceeded 34 C (93.2 F) degrees and there was even one day of the month in which they exceeded 36 degrees Celsius (96.8 F).
