In order to raise awareness and promote the pet friendly concept in Puerto Vallarta, the Plaza Caracol shopping center started the campaign so customers can bring along their pets.

"It is a wise decision and a good time to launch the campaign at Plaza Caracol responding to the need for pet owners to be able to shop or go out and spend time with their pets," said Public Relations Director Teresita Marmolejo.

Internationally, the pet friendly open spaces has been offered for several years, mainly in Europe and the United States, while in Mexico, the concept already exists in cities like Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City.

In Puerto Vallarta, beginning in July 2015, given the entrenchment of people who care for their pets, it was decided to implement the project in this mall.

Booths have been set up in the shopping center with products for the owners to use in cleaning up after their pets, if needed.

The campaign seeks to give tips on how to treat pets and also to plan events where people can participate with their pets.

Therefore, beginning this month, pets are allowed at Plaza Caracol as part of the initiative to make the shopping area into a friendly place with animals.

As a prerequisite and to avoid incidents with other animals and customers, the pet must be on a leash and the owner will be liable for damages that may be caused inside the square.

However, with these changes, security will redouble efforts to keep everything in order, said the administration.

The President of the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) said it is hoped that more businesses will join the initiative in the concept of making Puerto Vallarta identified as more pet friendly.
