When most of our guests think of traveling to Mexico, Cancun is often what first comes to mind. It makes sense, it’s easy to get to and is all over a great option with tasty food and bright turquoise water. However, if you’re a traveler that’s looking for something unique to add a little pep in your travel step, I’m here to tell you that Puerto Vallarta is a must see!

This resort town is on the Pacific side of Mexico and gives a different experience than the Caribbean side. While tourists have enjoyed this town for years it has remained true to its roots and given travelers an authentic cultural Mexican experience.

Located on Banderas Bay, this destination is home to dolphins, manta rays, a sea turtle sanctuary/conservancy and humpback whales. The whales are possibly one of the most unique in the wildlife offered in Puerto Vallarta. They migrate to the warm waters here which are ideal for feeding, mating and giving birth to their young. Tourists can easily find a whale watching tour anywhere from mid-December to the end of March. By January, you can catch glimpses of a newborn Humpback which has to be one of the most adorable, breathtaking things you will ever see!

If you’re a foodie like me, then hearing that Puerto Vallarta is also known for their food tours will make you want to call and book your trip ASAP. These tours are three hours of Mexican gastronomic yumminess! Delight in cuisine like fish tacos, ceviche and fresh sauces and salsas. You get to experience off the beaten path eateries and the colorful staff that work there – places the locals love! You will leave with not only a satisfied stomach but a deeper understanding of the local culture too. How fun is that?

If you are vacationing in Mexico, you’re most likely interested in hitting the beach and PV will not disappoint! You can head to the surfer town of Sayulita often called the “Crown Jewel” of Riviera Nayarit. While there you can find jungle excursions, fun restaurants, and even rent a surf board and hit the waves yourself!

Fun Fact: The Bachelor in Paradise filmed their 2015 season here… If that tickles your fancy.

Being on the Pacific side of Mexico, Puerto Vallarta is privy to some pretty amazing bright orange sunsets....
