As part of the commemoration of World Food Day, the System for Integral Family Development (DIF) of Puerto Vallarta has started the collection of non-perishable food items which will run until October 30, 2015.
The President of the charitable institution, Candelaria Tovar de Dávalos, reported that the aim of the campaign is to support the most vulnerable families in Puerto Vallarta.
It targets the entire population who are invited to deliver their gifts into the collection center installed at the DIF system headquarters on Avenida Paseo Las Palmas No. 105, Colonia Santa María. Hours are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
The campaign also takes place between the business sector and in public schools and private schools in the municipality.
Specifically requested are foods such as pasta, beans, oats, cereals, sugar, canned food, canned juices, salt, oil, powdered milk, instant coffee, tomato puree, among others.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) commemorated the World Food Day under the title "Social Protection to Break the Cycle of Rural Poverty."
The FAO, with the support of civil society and through social welfare institutions such as the DIF, calls to the populations of the world food problem in the hope to strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.
