Tour of the gay hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Hotel Mercurio, by Gabriel Bojórquez (Ed Walsh)
Three of Puerto Vallarta’s finest gay owned and operated boutique hotels are joining forces. A new website, staygaypv.com, spells out the rewards of staying at a gay hotel when visiting PV. If you stay at Casa Cupula, Hotel Mercurio, or Pinata PV you are entitled to discounts and other perks that are good at all three. The perks include discounts at Casa Cupula including spa services, use of the fabulous Pump Gym, Taste Restaurant and a free invite to Casa Cupula Friday Warm Up party. If you stay at any of the three you will also get a $50 peso (about $2.60) discount to Hotel Mercurio’s Boys & Burger party and you will also be entitled to invites to Pinata PV’s fabulous fiestas.

But beyond the new perks, the best thing about staying at a gay hotel is the experience you will have there. The hotels are a great place to meet, mix and mingle other gay travelers from around the world and other parts of Mexico. The staff is tuned in on what is going in on in gay Puerto Vallarta from the hottest clubs to the special parties that you might otherwise not know about. All three are also just a short walk or even shorter and cheap taxi ride to the city’s gay bars, nightclubs and the gay beach. You will also won’t have to share the pool with families of screaming (and peeing) kids
Casa Cupula is one of the most luxurious full service boutique hotels, gay or straight, in Puerto Vallarta. It includes a spa, pool, two hot tubs, the wonderful gourmet Taste Restaurant, and Pump Gym, which includes a sauna and showers. All the hotel’s services are open to the public and if you stay at any of the three hotels, you can get a discount.
Hotel Mercurio is the more budget-priced option of the three, but has a more upscale feel than traditional budget hotels. Its rooms are spread out on three floors, with a pool, waterfall and bar in the center courtyard. One of the best benefits of Hotel Mercurio is the hotel’s delicious and filling hot and cold breakfast. You can special order your eggs and grab the pre-prepared food. The breakfast and the hotels’ nightly happy hour are a great way to mix and mingle and meet fellow travelers and the happy hour is also popular with locals.
Pinata PV is the newest of the gay hotels, just a few blocks from Hotel Mercurio, and in the heart of the gay Zona Romantica area. The minimalist chic upscale and modern hotel artistically blends modern architecture with old Mexico colonial touches. The pool and hot tub are clothing optional and the hotel is marketed to gay men. The two story property has a juice bar in front that is open to the public. The gay couple who run the hotel, David and Ronnie, are known for their great parties and their community work.
You have a lot of options of places to stay in Puerto Vallarta. The gay hotels may not be for everyone but you will probably have a lot more fun there than a mainstream hotel out of Zona Romantica. Beyond the amenities, all three hotels have great staffs that make all the guests feel like family.
