Amigos de La Cruz Summer School Needs Volunteers

Aruna Piroshki - Amigos de La Cruz
July 18, 2012

The Summer School this year is once again run by Amigos de la Cruz, Aperch, with Rodrigo Perez as the Coordinator.

It got underway on Monday, July 9, and is set to run for three weeks, Mondays to Fridays.

It is held in the CETMAR High School, with the use of three classrooms and plenty of shady outdoor space. 50 children between the ages of 6 and 12 are taking part. The brave young volunteers helping Rod are: Yacelin, Edna, Viri, Carmen and Nagai.

Two English volunteers from Outreach International are also part of the team, Cain and Toby, and two others are helping part time, Nidia with Yoga twice a week and Misael on expeditions.

It is quite a job to keep so many bouncing kids busy and after the first week Rod's comment was "Well it's a very interesting experience!" As if to say "Only once in a life-time!" Now they´re into the second week and things seem a lot smoother!

Rod is looking for some help from Amigos members with the outings on Fridays, the 20th and 27th of July. As you will see below, these outings are respectively to the Turtle Camp in Nuevo Vallarta, and to the Crocodile Camp in Boca de Tomates, and he needs about five more adults to keep an eye on the kids. If you can help please phone or text him at 045 322 196582 or leave a message at the Octopus Garden (295-5071). It will be from 9:00 am to about 3:00 pm.

The Program for the Course is as follows:

First Week: Inauguration, with an introduction to the course for Parents, Participants and Guests. Health and Hygiene, personal and public. Welcome and Interactive Activities. Art and Physical Education classes. Friday outing to the Manzanilla Beach with Rally.

Second Week: Introduction to Social Environmental Education by the Mexican Environment Army. Introduction to Biology in general and precautions. Recycling and its benefits. Art and Physical Education classes. Friday outing to the Tortuga Protection Camp in Nuevo Vallarta.

Third Week: Course of Environmental Care and Recruiting by Greenpeace. Making the micro project of Greenpeace. Classes of creative art and presentation of artwork. Closing of the Course (everyone's invited!). Friday outing to the Crocodile Park in Boca de Tomates.
