Blood Donations Needed in Puerto Vallarta for Christine Hammer Team Angels/Steve - PVAngels | |
June 16, 2016 |
Update on July 4, 2016: Sad News... Many of you may have known Christine Hammer, Martillo. She worked a long time at Andales then with Isabel and for the last few years had Monchis Sports Bar (third base bar, last place before home), in Plaza Romy. She passed away this morning, losing her short battle with cancer. Via con Dios, she was loved by many and leaves a large hole in our hearts!
Update from Steve on 6/22/2016: We had a bit of a scare last night when Christines heart began to beat more than twice normal speed due to a reaction to her medication and a blood clot in her lung discovered by a new cat scan. The doctors took her to intensive care and shocked her heart to get the heart rate back to normal. It didn't work. But after about an hour of her being off all medication her heart rate went back to normal on it's own. They kept her in intensive care for the night and she has now returned back to her regular room and is receiving some medication again. We are kind of one day at a time now waiting for her to recover enough to return home. No lab reports back yet so the direction of her treatments is still not known.
Thanks to all for all your support, thoughts and prayers. We WILL get through this!
Most of you around Old Town Vallarta know and love Christine Hammer (aka Martillo), owner of Monchis Sports Bar. She has always been a strong support for our community and now she can use your help and support:
Hi all,
This is Steve writing for Christine.
We just got back from the doctor and Christine's surgery has been set. We will check her into CMQ Premire Hospital this morning, June 16th to begin preparation for her surgery on Friday. She will have a non-cancerous tumor removed from her colon as well as a biopsy of both her liver and overies which may lead to more surgery or chemotheropy depending on the findings.
Her liver is in bad condition right now and will require a lot of medication and or surgery depending on what is found.
We both cannot tell you how much we appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers and all of the help all of our friends have been. Christine will need a lot of support, both mentally and in her day to day activities as she goes through her recovery.
For right now we are asking that anyone who can give blood can do so at San Javier blood bank. They are the only blood bank in PV and will be where we purchase the blood for her surgery. I don't really know yet all of the rules for being able to donate but I will try and find out and forward the info ASAP. (Editor's Note: Find the latest donation info and get directions to San Javier Blood Bank here). I do know that you need to tell them the donation is for Christine Hammer.
As always Chris's attitude is just the best and we will fight this mess with everything we have.
Bless you all!!
Steve and Christine
