Blue Agave (Agave Azul)

Do you normally celebrate National Tequila Day on July 24 at your favorite Mexican restaurant or tequila bar? You can celebrate it every day at the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and sample their housemade tequila.

Fortunately, at the swanky resort and spa, every day is National Tequila Day. It's one of the very few resorts in the world that grows its own agave azul (what tequila is made of) on its property, and produces its own proprietary brand of tequila.

The tequilas on tap: joven (young), blanco (white), resposado (rested), anejo (aged), and extra anejo (extra aged). The resort features Secretos del Tequila, a tequila appreciation experience developed to increase guests' knowledge of and appreciation for tequila. The experience includes tours of the agave garden and a Tequila Sommelier who has been certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council and conducts tasting classes for guests.

So while you're lounging in the picturesque Bay Banderas, sip on one of the resort's 126 distinct by-the-glass tequila options; or heck — get a spa treatment that uses agave. At the resort's Ohtli Spa, try the Agave Syrup, Cornmeal & Sea Salt Scrub — heavenly.

Tamarind Margarita
2 ounces CasaMagna Aged Tequila
1 ½ ounces Controy (Mexican Orange Liqueur) or Cointreau
3 ounces tamarind concentrate (found in most specialty food stores)
½ ounces natural sweet syrup
Drops of lemon juice

Horchata Margarita
2 ounces CasaMagna Aged Tequila
1 ½ ounces Controy (Mexican Orange Liqueur) or Cointreau
3 oz horchata concentrate (horchata is a concentrate mix of milk, rice, and cinnamon and can be found in most specialty food stores)
½ ounces natural sweet syrup

Hibiscus Margarita
2 ounces CasaMagna Aged Tequila
1 ½ ounces Controy (Mexican Orange Liqueur) or Cointreau
3 ounces hibiscus concentrate (hibiscus flower infusion)
½ ounces natural sweet syrup
Drops of lemon juice

Directions for all: Blend all the ingredients with ice and serve in a special glass.
